YogaMoves: Asana for a Healthy Back

Many of us experience intermittent and chronic low back pain. Many of us come to yoga classes with hope that the mat practices can alleviate pain and restore function. Guess what? We are on the right track! However, to safely practice, we must understand the structure of the vertebral column, how it moves, and how the muscles of the core work to create stability and movement.

During this 3-hour workshop, you will learn simple range of motion exercises and accessible yoga poses that may help to alleviate low back pain, relieve sciatica, improve your core strength, and balance your pelvis. Handouts of home practice sequences designed to address common situations such as low back pain and sciatica are included with tuition.

Cost: $25 before October 27th, $40 thereafter.

Winds of Change: Pranayama as a Practice

Winds of Change: Pranayama as a Practice

In various yogic systems of thought, it is a commonly held belief that we humans are allotted 10,000 breaths per day for 100 years. Did you know that the average person breathes 20,000 times per day? The overwhelming majority of a typical person's respiratory activity is short and shallow, which produces profound effects on numerous body functions. So, how do we create greater respiratory efficiency and improve actions like our digestion? In short, with Pranayama! The breathing exercises of yoga can help us engage the lungs more fully with less strain -- and this is just the tip of iceberg.

Join Mary Richards, e-RYT, CYT, for an evening dedicated to the most important of the body's "senses," the breath. This workshop will include a brief lecture about the respiratory system and offer participants the guided opportunity to practice several different pranayama techniques. There will be some active and passive pose practice as well, to prime the body for the breathing exercises. Dress comfortably and bring water.

$25 if registered before October 27, $40 thereafter.

Autumn Hush: Restorative Yoga with Live Music

The leaves are changing and nature is telling us to slow down. In this Fall Restorative + Live Music Workshop you will do just that! Restorative Yoga is a delicious way to release the layers of tension that settle themselves into the energetic and physical bodies. In this healing workshop, we will melt into yoga poses that are fully supported by a number of props, so that you are able to experience total relaxation. Theses restorative poses will be sequenced in a way that gently move the spine, refresh internal organs, and restore balance to the body. Each pose will be held for a number of minutes to allow you to truly marinate in the tranquility. All the while being soothed by the sweet sounds of live music. Ending in a gong meditation to transform this practice to the ultimate relaxation!
You will not only leave feeling relaxed and restored, but will be equipped with the knowledge to re-create some of the postures in your own home or office.
No yoga experience necessary. Early Registration is STRONGLY suggested.
